When the bids were opened on June 12th, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. Ltd. (STEC) of China came as the one with the cheapest bid at Rs 1,126 crore beating 2nd L&T Ltd,3rd GÜLERMAK AS, 4th Tata Projects Ltd. - SK E&C JV and lastly 5th Afcons Infrastructure Ltd.
If no last minute problems arise, Chinese company will get the contract.

Calls to cancel STEC's win, as anti-China sentiments in India on the rise.
Yesterday 3 Indian soldiers were killed by China within the Indian territory (Ladakh). This increases probability of the cancellation although probably not to actual cancellation. This wil most probably effect this and future Chinese companies building infrastructure in India.
The firm emerged as the lowest bidder for the project, but Swadeshi Jagran Manch said giving the project to the firm will be against govt's ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ push.
It is very unfortunate choice for India.

Most recently STEC was also awarded a contract for two tunnels by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. BMC chose Chinese company STEC over Indian company Larsen & Toubro (L&T).
As we keep prizing China's aggression, we as a country deserve this.
